Saturday’s official Live 8 concerts will take place in nine cities: London, Berlin, Paris, Philadelphia, Rome, Toronto, Tokyo, Moscow and Johannesburg, South Africa. The shows are not fundraisers but are designed to raise consciousness about global poverty. World leaders will meet at the Group of Eight Summit on July 6 to 8 in Scotland.
Live 8 will get a financial injection from music fans who participate in a fundraising program sponsored by concert promoter Clear Channel Music Group. Lawn seats for more than 400 concerts at 42 U.S. amphitheaters operated by Clear Channel will be sold for $18 Saturday through Monday. A donation of $1 from each transaction will be donated to the Live 8 Foundation.
Radio
XM Satellite Radio will offer several versions of Live 8 coverage, grouping performances by genre. The Premiere Radio Network is offering a syndicated broadcast of the event.
