Chiropractor Rick Lovell said regular signs didn’t catch the attention of drivers zipping by on Cermak Road in North Riverside.

Neither did neon signs.

So out of frustration, he introduced them to Skelly.

Skelly, a skeleton who has a permanent seat on a bench in front of Lovell’s office near 12th Avenue, certainly has grabbed attention as he lackadaisically watches traffic.

He is not a fair-weather friend to Cermak commuters. Skelly’s there to lure passersby straight into Lovell’s chiropractic office year-round, changing his look depending on the season.

At Easter, he gets bunny ears.

Lately, he’s been wearing a Cubs hat and a patriotic American flag vest.

Lovell said some people stop in the American Chiropractic & Wellness Centerjust to thank him for putting a smile on their faces.

“Now I think I’d have problems if I didn’t leave him out there,” Lovell said.

“Laughter is the best medicine.”
