Gorillaz
“Demon Days”
More Top Picks Ocular Migraine Vs Visual Aura Whats The Difference
Gorillaz began as a one-off goof, a collaboration between Blur’s Damon Albarn and Dan the Automator–plus other guests. But the project became a sleeper hit, and now all eyes are on the band to not just make lightning strike twice but to jump-start still sluggish music sales. Who knows whether “Demon Days” will achieve the second goal, but there’s no question it succeeds as a follow-up. With surprising cameos from the likes of De La Soul (on the slinky “Feel Good Inc.”) and Dennis Hopper (doing menacing spoken word on “Fire Coming Out of a Monkey’s Head”), Gorillaz offers plenty of infectious melody and still more novelty for your buck.
Best track: “Dirty Harry,” featuring a great squiggly hook on the chorus.
