Husky Rescue

“Country Falls”

It’s amazing that a country producing some of the world’s most forward-thinking, innovative phones also can claim a band that creates some of the most stripped-down, beautiful, atmospheric music. But in Finland, where Nokia owns the cellular waves, lives a group bringing lo-fi trip hop back to the fold. Helsinki-based Husky Rescue takes a cue from Morcheeba and combines folk pop with country elements and angelic vocals on its debut album, “Country Falls,” a 13-track scenescape that sounds like it could be a soundtrack to “Lemony Snickets’ A Series of Unfortunate Events.” Husky Rescue’s music, created mostly by Marko Nyberg and delivered by 20-year-old Reeta-Leena Korhola, paints a dreamlike landscape with haunting lyrics where you don’t know whether you want to smile or cry.

Best track: “Summertime Cowboy” will mesh well with back-yard beer bashes thanks to its blend of electronic sampling and pop sensibility.
