Between them, Rob Mariano and Amber Brkich won more than a million bucks on “Survivor: All-Stars.” On the current version of “The Amazing Race,” which ends with a two-hour finale Tuesday (8 p.m., WBBM-Ch. 2), they’ve also bagged a few free trips for finishing first on various legs of the ’round-the-world reality race. Last week, when they finished first yet again, they won a home-entertainment system courtesy of one of the show’s sponsors.
Not only do they have all that loot and all those prizes, CBS footed the bill for their recent Bahamas wedding, which the network will broadcast May 24.
So as the end of this race approaches, the question is, will it be overkill if Team “Romber” wins another $1 million prize?
It’s a very real possibility, considering how efficiently they’ve run the race so far. And no doubt some “TAR” fans will be grinding their teeth if “Romber” wins the competition, instead of ex-POW Ron and his beauty-queen girlfriend, Kelly; or Uchenna and Joyce, an appealing duo who plan to use any winnings to fund fertility treatments.
Whatever the outcome, CBS is no doubt pleased with its decision to cast the reality veterans on “TAR”; though many fans were put off by Mariano’s cutthroat racing style, his love-to-hate-him antics drove the show to stellar ratings.
There are two other worthy finales Tuesday night: A character on “Scrubs” will leave Sacred Heart Hospital on the season-ender (8 p.m., WMAQ-Ch. 5), though show creator Bill Lawrence has emphasized that the actor in question will not necessarily leave the show. That’s good to know, because breaking up the chemistry of this talented cast could inflict a near-fatal injury on this always-enjoyable comedy.
On UPN, teen detective Veronica Mars finds out who killed her best friend, Lilly Kane (8 p.m., WPWR-Ch. 50), in the finale of the show that bears Mars’ name. Whatever the resolution of that murder mystery, regular viewers of “Veronica Mars” already know that the show is one of the most intelligently written, well-acted shows on TV right now.
If you haven’t followed Veronica’s adventures this season, you can catch up over the summer: UPN plans to repeat “Veronica Mars” starting sometime in mid-to-late June.
