The Batavia City Council this week approved spending $327,000 to bury new water mains, sanitary sewer mains and electrical ducts along Fabyan Parkway on the city’s far west side.

The low bid, submitted by John Burns Construction Inc. of Orland Park, is $13,000 higher than city engineers’ estimates of the project cost, said Ald. Eldon Frydendall. Cambridge Homes Inc. was slated to pay $70,588 of that cost because the new mains will serve a subdivision Cambridge plans to build on the Thompson Farm property at Fabyan and Wenmouth Road.

Officials lowered Cambridge’s share to $50,793 because it recently spent $39,590 to preserve wetlands as part of the McKee Tributary Project, which also serves the Thompson Farm area.

The developer was obligated to pay only $19,795 of the wetlands preservation cost.

The project is scheduled to start this summer.
