In June the board placed a moratorium on new annexations until the changes are worked out. At the time, village staff estimated that would last six months.
At an April public hearing meeting, Plan Commission members were approached by representatives the Home Builder Association and the Association of Attainable Housing, who suggested a joint committee be formed with staff and representatives of the school districts to discuss the proposed changes.
But Trustee Jeffrey Dement strongly objected.
“This has been a dog-and-pony show for seven, eight, 10 months and that is ridiculous,” Dement said. “They should be discussing how to stop the taxes from going up. … I don’t think they need to be involved in discussions on our development process.”
Community Development Director Jim Testin said the builders and developers were interested in talking about density, impact fees, architecture requirements and the village’s strict code requirements.
Trustee James Waldorf, who will be sworn in as mayor at the first meeting in May, had the only vote in favor of forming the committee.
The public hearing process will continue at the June Plan Commission meeting, Testin said.
