Chicago police say the man questioned last week about the Kevin Clewer murder is not connected with the March 2004 homicide of the 31-year-old Lakeview resident.
Area 3 Lt. Richard Rybicki said Friday that DNA given voluntarily from the man did not match forensic evidence taken from the crime scene. Police began questioning the man Wednesday after receiving a phone tip.
Rybicki said the Clewer case remains an active investigation.
Clewer was found stabbed to death in his Boystown apartment. Police have been searching for a man named Fernando who witnesses described seeing with Clewer on North Halsted Street the night he was killed.
Clewer’s family has offered a $20,000 reward in the case and a month ago enlisted the help of Cook County Crime Stoppers in hopes of soliciting anonymous tips to pass along to police.
