Honesty was indeed the best policy for Northwestern defensive tackle Luis Castillo. When a supplement taken to help heal an elbow injury showed up in an NFL drug test, Castillo and his agents sent a letter of explanation to every team and followed up with phone calls. Castillo’s fears about how it would affect his draft stock were allayed when he was picked 28th by San Diego. The Chargers hope he’ll become a starting end in their 3-4 defense. “With all the ups and downs that we’ve had, this is just unbelievable,” Castillo said. “I told them I’ll play end, nose [tackle] or anywhere they want me.”
