Firefighters and paramedics got together last week at the firehouse at 202 E. Chicago Ave. to have a look at a new children’s book featuring Chicago emergency workers.
The colorful picture book, titled “Emergency,” comes from the British publisher Make Believe Ideas. It is a guide to emergency life-saving vehicles and equipment, and it features illustrations of firetrucks, ambulances, firefighters, scuba team members and more.
“Our firefighters and paramedics think this is a great idea,” said Cmdr. Will Knight, a spokesman for the Fire Department.

A book company representative spent a week shadowing and photographing emergency workers in Chicago, Knight said. The Chicago Fire Department logo and some employees are seen throughout the book, which will be sold throughout Canada and the United States.
The Chicago Fire Department will not receive any proceeds. The payoff: 50 free books.
