Village Trustee Tim Balderman resigned Wednesday, just before being sworn in as a newly elected board member of New Lenox Elementary School District 122.
Balderman, whose term was to expire next month, resigned from the Village Board early to avoid any conflict with his seat on the school board, to which he was elected on April 5. State statute does not allow anyone to serve on two boards at one time.

His early exit will leave a vacancy at the last regular scheduled Village Board meeting on April 26 before the new board members are sworn in May 10.
“We will be placing a vacuum on the board for one meeting,” Mayor Mike Smith said Monday.
Smith said he would appoint incoming Trustee Ray Tuminello, who was elected to his position this month.
Tuminello resigned from his position as a Plan Commission member on Wednesday to take the appointment.
