Calling it one of the most important things to happen to the village, board members this week approved the formation of a performing arts committee to assist in programming and events at the pavilion in the new Commons.

Mayor Mike Smith appointed eight people to the committee including local music teachers and a former entertainment booker for Harrah’s Casino in Las Vegas.

The pavilion has an outdoor stage and will soon be fitted with a lighting and sound system along with a large movie screen, Smith said.

Smith and Trustee Annette Bowden have planned events together, but Smith said they lack expertise.

“This is an important step for the village,” Bowden said. “Just as important as any of the infrastructure we have done. Our residents and homeowners and children will directly benefit from this.”
