A 24-hour electronic message board at Oak Park Avenue and Hickory Street that will beam news of village events was approved by the Village Board this week.

A second message board is planned for the village’s commuter train station near 80th Avenue and 179th Street, where work on a new building is scheduled to begin soon.

Seven of a dozen monument signs will be erected at entry points to the village this year. The remainder are planned for installation next year. Many of the brick signs, which will be framed by decorative landscaping, are replacing old, wooden signs.

The electronic message board signs will be used exclusively for community announcements and not advertising.
