First impressions

The spotlight over a wooden sign offers a bright welcome on a quiet side street just off Broadway. Expect to have suspended televisions tuned to the game when the home team plays. But otherwise, this pub offers more of an “everybody knows your name” neighborhood atmosphere. It’s just that here, instead of Cliff and Norm of “Cheers,” patrons at tables, booths and a couple of comfortable sofas may remind you more of the cast of “Friends.”

On the plate

Traditional bar-food favorites with a playful mix of flavors and special attention paid to fresh ingredients.

At your service

One friendly server’s laid-back attitude belies her extremely efficient service.

Second helpings

Flavorful hamburgers, cooked perfectly to order, come with a choice of classic hand-cut traditional fries or crispy sweet-potato fries. Tasty hummus surrounded with fresh and puffy pita makes a delicious appetizer shared around the table. The tasty Buena burger wrap, grilled beef chopped up and sauteed with bacon, takes on taco qualities when wrapped in a tortilla with guacamole, lettuce and cheese.

Take a pass

The guacamole works fine as a condiment, but not so well as the stand-alone appetizer. The menu describes it as “a spiced-up version of the traditional Mexican dish.” But diners at our table wished sour cream had been left out of the mix.

Thirst quenchers

Well-stocked in boutique beers including Belgian and German imports plus some American micros. Eleven wines are available by the glass, plus lemonade, tea and sodas.

Extras

A large outdoor space offers sidewalk seating when weather allows. Takeout meals are available.

Price range

Appetizers, $5-$8.50; salad and sandwiches, $6-$8; side dishes, $2.50-$3; drinks, $1.50-$13.
