The golden arches are coming down, along with the rest of a 30-year-old McDonald’s restaurant on State Street. But in a few months, a new McDonald’s will rise on the same site.

The Village Board last week approved the demolition and the plan for a new store at 1152 State St.

Rich Neubauer, rebuild manager at McDonald’s Corp., said the store would be torn down as soon as the village issues permits.

The new restaurant will have a larger footprint but won’t have a basement.

The building will be set farther back from the street and will have double drive-throughs and double order lanes. The only way to exit the drive-through now is on highly traveled State Street. The new configuration will eliminate that exit and bring traffic around to adjacent Wend Street, Neubauer said.

“We realize this location generates a lot of drive-through business, and this will vastly improve traffic circulation around the building,” Neubauer said.

The 5,471-square-foot restaurant will include a children’s area.

“This is a great improvement,” said Trustee Debby Blatzer. “And as the mother of a 4-year old, I appreciate the play place.”
