Windows closed: Marc Chagall’s “America Windows,” three stained-glass windows designed for the Art Institute of Chicago and dedicated as a memorial to Mayor Richard J. Daley, will be temporarily taken off view at the museum on May 2 because of vibrations that will be caused by the construction of the institute’s new wing by Renzo Piano. Other works of art now located on the east side of the existing building also will be relocated gradually. The Chagall windows have been on view since their dedication in 1977. They will be conserved and reinstalled before 2009, when construction of the Piano wing is expected to be completed.
