Few do gruff romantic disenchantment like the Wedding Present’s David Gedge. And while he offered more or less the same thing in his subsequent band Cinerama, it’s nice to find Gedge resurrecting his old group’s name. Fans of the furious pace of the Weddoes’ earliest days will be disappointed that the current incarnation of the group sticks to more traditional indie territory, though fans of Gedge’s songwriting will be glad to hear he’s generally as sharp and biting as ever.
Best track: “I’m Further North Than You,” a wistful breakup song that chronicles some high points of a dying relationship.
