Hinsdale Central named former Glenbrook North head coach and NBA assistant Brian James its new boys basketball coach Wednesday.
James had a career record of 311-150 at Glenbrook North, Romeoville, Taylorville and Wilmington. His Spartans teams went 139-34 and reached the Class AA Elite Eight in 1993 and ’95.
After leaving Glenbrook North, James was an NBA assistant with Detroit (1995-98), Toronto (1998-2001) and Washington (2001-03). He recently worked as a scout for Seattle.
“We did some extensive interviewing with the parents and other coaches and myself,” Hinsdale Central athletic director Tom Shweer said. “We felt Brian was the guy who can show us some great leadership and take our program forward. He has taken a bunch of programs from one level to the next level.”
The Red Devils went 10-17 last season under Bruce Buhrandt.
