It seems like only yesterday that Britney started cavorting with Kevin Federline and we were all shaking our heads, declaring it was “just a phase.”
Now she’s hitched and having his kid. I just don’t get it.
It’s not only because he is a backup dancer enjoying the high life while Britney foots the bill. It’s the facts: How can you put your faith in a man who started dating you while another woman was pregnant with his child?

Bizarrely, some women find Kevin Federline attractive. The New York Observer recently ran a column in which some women confessed to pining for Mr. Britney Spears.
“We like the messy hair, the soul patch, the tanned chest beneath the wife-beater. People may whisper that he’s white trash, but we think it’s all part of the Federline mystique,” Doree Shafrir wrote.
I can understand wanting to hook up with a “bad boy,” but he’s not exactly the guy to marry and have kids with.
This is my theory, people:
Britney was devastated when she and Justin Timberlake broke up. (You’ve heard “Everytime.”) She reacted the way anyone does to a breakup–she engaged in some highly publicized partying and rebound hookups. Confused and vulnerable, she wanted to mess with all of us by bucking her image. (Thus, “My Prerogative.”)
Kevin Federline was her answer.
I’ve wanted to support Britney as she figures out all the difficult questions of being a twentysomething. Finding yourself is hard, even for megamillionaires.
The marriage was one thing, but the kid is another. Britney and Kevin have to be responsible for this life, and if there’s any truth to the tabloids, the future looks questionable.
I fear the worst is yet to come for Britney. She’s not a girl anymore, and she’ll have to live with her choices as a woman.
