Bob Costas will return to HBO later this spring with a revamped show.
The new, hourlong “Costas Now” is scheduled to debut May 13. It will incorporate some of the elements of his previous series, “On the Record,” but will also add some new features that likely will give the show the feel of a newsmagazine about sports.
“One of the most rewarding aspects of working at HBO is being part of television that is both entertaining and thoughtful,” Costas says. “The one-hour format gives us the opportunity to treat serious topics with appropriate depth and still have plenty of fun with the offbeat stuff.”
One big change from “On the Record” is frequency: “Costas Now” will air monthly rather than weekly. Additionally, where “On the Record” was primarily an interview show, “Now” also will include reported feature stories and segments on important issues in the sports world.
In addition to working on “Now,” Costas will continue as a co-host of HBO’s “Inside the NFL” in the fall.
