The Village Board has approved a land swap that would give the Fire Protection District a building site on a major roadway and residents additional open space.
Village Administrator Jerry Ducay said the village exchanged two village-owned lots in the Lakeview subdivision for two other lots being bought by the fire district.
The village lots provide an ideal location for a fourth fire station because fire vehicles called to an emergency will be able to pull out directly onto 80th Avenue without cutting through residential streets, according to Trustee Jim Holland.
People who live in the Lakeview subdivision will have more open space leading to a “park-like” area bordering a pond, he said.
Fire Protection District Chief James Grady said the district plans to build on the site between 2008 and 2010. Grady said he thinks the building can be built without a tax increase.
