Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

After what feels like a long three years after the release of her under-appreciated debut “Southern Hummingbird,” Atlanta R&B vocalist Tweet returns with a follow-up that may not attract much more attention. Although “Turn Da Lights Off” and “We Don’t Need No Water” are certainly contenders, you won’t find many slam-dunk hits on this album. Instead, there’s a whole lot of wonderfulness that sneaks up on you. In the middle of what sounds like a sweet ballad–lilting rhythm guitar and all–Tweet coos, “You must be sort of deranged/And your worth is less than small change.” And you almost have to laugh. On “My Man,” “Where Do We Go From Here?” and “I’m Done,” the same whispery vocalist many once compared to Ashanti throws some more pounds on the bar and gives soulful ’80s favorites like the Jones Girls and Rose Royce a run for their harmonies.

Best track: “Cab Ride,” whose unexpected choice of the flute-like keyboards from TV’s “Taxi” theme lends to its gentle beauty–until it careens into a brick wall.
