‘Practice’ alum signs up for comedy

Marla Sokoloff, who played Lucy Hatcher on “The Practice” for most of its run, will give comedy a try in a pilot at the WB. She has joined the Jerry Bruckheimer-produced “The Evolution of Man,”about three friends (Eric Lively, Josh Braaten and Max Greenfield) who hire a female life coach.

– Also at the WB, Heather Paige Kent, who starred in “That’s Life” for CBS a few seasons back, will star opposite Camryn Manheim in a comedy that focuses on a single mom (Manheim) who moves with her three kids to a neighborhood filled with soccer moms.

– Meanwhile, NBC added Robert Clup to the cast of “Early Bird,” which follows a twentysomething guy (Timm Sharp) who moves into a community for seniors.

– At ABC, Leigh-Allyn Baker, who has a recurring part on “Will & Grace,” has joined the cast of a Chris Kattan comedy in which the “Saturday Night Live” alum plays an arrogant TV reporter. She will play his assistant.

– At CBS, Rhea Perlman, who accumulated her Emmy glories playing Carla on “Cheers,” will lend support to “Stroller Wars,” a comedy that stars Tiffani Thiessen and Darren Ritchie as new parents. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Perlman will play the mother of Ritchie’s character.
