Morrissey
Live at Earls Court
The only person more passionate about Morrissey than Morrissey fans is Morrissey himself. Catching the Manchester legend live is like watching an already pronounced ego explode like fireworks, tempered greatly by the Mozzer’s undeniable charisma. Morrissey’s first-ever live disc starts with the Smiths’ “How Soon is Now?” a tall order for any act to live up to, but by and large Morrissey pulls it off with a mix of brash solo songs and other still-vibrant Smiths’ classics. The tandem live DVD, “Who Put the ‘M’ in Manchester?” is even better, considering Morrissey’s every grimace, glance and sly grin offers extra punctuation and punch lines for his smartest quips and droll lyrical zingers.
Best track: “There is a Light that Will Never go Out,” after all these years still beautiful enough to serve as Morrissey’s epitaph.
