Officials learned this week that the Illinois Department of Transportation will cover the $1.3 million cost of reconstructing a milelong section of Frontage Road west of Interstate Highway 55 from U.S. Highway 30 to Van Horn Woods.

Once the road is complete, Plainfield will take over jurisdiction of the roadway.

In the last two years, the village has received an increasing number of complaints about the condition of the road, which has deteriorated greatly, said Public Works Director Allen Persons.

In February, the village officials asked that IDOT improve the road. Initially a $200,000 resurfacing project was agreed to, Persons said. But the village insisted on complete reconstruction.
