Weber is the first Illinois coach to receive the award since the USBWA began selecting a coach of the year in 1959. The award will be presented April 1 in St. Louis, site of the Final Four.
“I know it’s because we have a good team,” Weber said of the honor. “Our staff does a great job. If I’m the national coach of the year, they’re the national assistants of the year.
“It’s a good feeling when you get selected to something like this, but I would trade the award for a national championship or the Final Four anytime.”
