Local arts organizations are being asked to lobby against Gov. Rod Blagojevich’s proposed $1.7 million, or 8.7 percent, funding cut for the Illinois Arts Council.
The Illinois Arts Alliance on Thursday issued the call to action.
The advocacy group wants pressure on legislators to prevent the council’s $19.6 million budget from being reduced for fiscal 2006.
The alliance is warning that local groups that receive funding from the state council will be hurt by such a cut.
Council spokeswoman Ann Ridge said, “We are very aware of the state’s budget challenges. We support the governor’s budget as introduced,” although she noted that the legislative budget process is just beginning.
