Can it be that there might not be a second season of the delightful “Project Runway,” which catapulted the design career of Jay McCarroll in the first season finale Wednesday night? Mediaweek reports that Bravo’s hit reality show is tangled up in negotiations over the dissolution of the relationship between Bob and Harvey Weinstein of Miramax, which produced “Runway,” and Disney. The Weinsteins are in the midst of exiting Disney, and Mediaweek said “whether the Weinsteins or Disney walk away with ‘Runway’ remains uncertain.”
Let’s hope that network greed eventually triumphs and brings back the series; after all, the show garnered huge buzz and great ratings for the cable network.
Yet the networks’ frenzy to ram one edition of a reality franchise down our throats just weeks after the previous edition ended (“Survivor,” “Apprentice,” “The Amazing Race”) is getting tiresome. Maybe a break of a few months will whet the public’s appetite even more for another dose of “Runway” magic.
