Officials rolled out the red carpet and the PowerPoint to more than 200 developers and business professionals in their annual economic development breakfast this week at Lincoln-Way Central High School.
Mayor Mike Smith highlighted the village’s strengths including the town’s median income of $92,125 and its potential growth with an estimated 101,725 residents by 2030.
“We will be building out to 40 square miles, which is almost four times as big as it is now,” Smith said. “We will still be the same village as we are now but on a much larger scale.”
The mayor also highlighted the area around the extension of Interstate Highway 355, which will pass through town and connect with Interstate Highway 80. “This will be one of the most important projects New Lenox will ever see,” he said.
Within 20 minutes of that point, Smith said there are approximately 600,000 users and he envisions a regional shopping center at that site with six anchor stores.
“This is going to be bigger than Orland Square,” he said.
