Village Board members have approved buying a residential lot near the library to pave the way for traffic improvements and a parking lot expansion at the library, which is undergoing a $5.2 million renovation.

Library Board President John Altar said Wednesday the land acquisition would allow officials to develop an entrance and exit that will improve traffic flow around the library at 7836 S. 78th Ave.

The 18,000-square foot expansion will more than double space at the library and include a new children’s area, kitchen and community room seating up to 155 people, Altar said.

Construction delays pushed completion to late August from May.
