A controversial town-home development that is expected to pay for improvements to a section of Cooper Road narrowly received Village Board approval this week.

The Landings of New Lenox, with its nautical theme, will have an entrance off Cooper Road, which will require developer Jim Weiner, of Chicago Ridge, to fully improve about one-half mile of the roadway.

Trustee Annette Bowden, one of two board members to vote against the proposal, objects to the high level of density on the property and said the village’s recently approved comprehensive plan calls for only 34 units at the top end. The village approved 40.

Four trustees approved the measure.
