The Poetry Foundation said Thursday it is sponsoring a new series of dramatic readings of verse plays, to be launched with stagings of T.S. Eliot’s “Murder in the Cathedral” in five Chicago churches on successive nights in April.

The Chicago-based group said the readings will be directed and produced by Bernie Sahlins, a cofounder of Second City, and followed by discussions led by former Tribune chief critic Richard Christiansen.

The play will be presented at: Old St. Patrick Church, 700 W. Adams St., April 4; Rockefeller Memorial Chapel, 5850 S. Woodlawn Ave., April 5; Fourth Presbyterian Church, Michigan Avenue and Delaware Place, April 6; St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 2335 N. Orchard St., April 7; and St. Chysostom’s Episcopal Church; 1424 N. Dearborn St., April 8.

In the works are stagings of “The Burial of Thebes” (Seamus Heaney’s version of Sophocles’ “Antigone”), Moliere’s “The School for Husbands” and Archibald MacLeish’s “JB.” For ticket information, call the foundation at 312-787-7070.
