Former TV lawyer Dylan McDermott is taking on a new practice at CBS, and “American Dreams” mother and son Daphne Zuniga and Milo Ventimiglia have also found new roles.

McDermott, who starred in ABC’s “The Practice” for seven seasons, has signed on to star in the CBS drama pilot “3 Lbs.,” according to The Hollywood Reporter. He’ll play a respected neurosurgeon in the ensemble piece, which also will star “24” alum Reiko Aylesworth.

Meanwhile, former “Gilmore Girls” sort-of-bad boy Ventimiglia has joined the cast of a WB drama. He joins Penn Badgley (“The Mountain”) and Ernest Waddell (“The Wire”) in the cast about students and teachers at a New York City college.

Zuniga will star in ABC Family’s drama “Beautiful People,” scheduled for a summer premiere. The former “Melrose Place” star will play the divorced mother of two teens who moves her family from New Mexico to New York.
