Sprinkler systems will now be required for all new residential construction in the village.
The Village board approved the proposal Monday requiring new homes and townhouses to have one sprinkler head per 100 square feet of space.
Village President Melvin VanAllen said that since last year commercial buildings have been required to add sprinkler systems if the business or building is sold.
The board opted to add residential construction to have a more uniform policy.
“The costs of the systems are much lower now,” VanAllen said.

The village may consider requiring sprinkler systems in home additions or renovations at a later date. For now, only new residential construction is covered.
Justice is the second southwest suburb to require residential sprinkler systems. Hickory Hills approved a similar ordinance last month.
