Machesney Park Harlem dominated the opening day of the IHSA girls state bowling tournament Friday at Cherry Bowl Lanes in Rockford, topping 940 in each of its six games and building a 300-pin lead in the team standings.

Led by junior Adrian Hall’s six-game total of 1,290, the Huskies finished with a first-day pinfall of 5,925. Machesney was runner-up to Schaumburg last season and won three straight titles from 2000 to 2002.

Minooka is second at 5,649 behind Holly Karner (1,187), Amy Gutierrez (1,180) and Christa Everts (1,172). Abby Knoblich leads third-place Morris (5,624) with 1,178.

Sophomore Ellen Morrison of Winnebago leads the individual standings at 1,315. Rock Island’s Brittany Jones is third, followed by Rachel Kerner of Antioch (1,231), Katie Zarr of Oak Forest (1,229) and Ria Sweeney of Morgan Park (1,210).
