Red is one of those colors that almost always makes a statement.

It says bold. It says saucy. It says romance.

For February, the American Heart Association wants you to think about something else when you see red–heart disease.

Cardiovascular disease is the leading killer of women. So, during February (American Heart Month), the AHA will launch the Go Red for Women campaign, a push to get more women to learn about heart disease and stroke, lower their risk for both and live stronger, longer lives.

To that end, the organization has designated Friday as Wear Red Day. It wants men and women all over the country to “Go Red” and help raise awareness of cardiovascular disease.

The AHA has set up a Web site where you can buy various red items: hats, T-shirts, scarves, ties, jewelry, fragrances. With each purchase at www.shop gored.com, you’ll receive “Ten Ways to Take Charge of Your Health” and a red dress pin–the symbol for women’s empowerment over their heart health.
