Katharine Lee Reid, director of the Cleveland Museum of Art since 2000, will retire from the position by the end of this year, citing personal and family considerations.
Reid was for nine years director of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. Prior to that, she held three posts in Chicago: deputy director of the Art Institute of Chicago (1982-1991); curator of collections at the David and Alfred Smart Gallery (1973-1979), and director of exhibitions of the Renaissance Society at the University of Chicago (1971-1973).
Chapin to Milwaukee: Mary Weaver Chapin, a curatorial fellow in the department of European painting at the Art Institute of Chicago, has become assistant curator of earlier European art at the Milwaukee Art Museum. In Chicago, she served as research assistant on the 2001 “Van Gogh and Gauguin: The Studio of the South” exhibition and as co-curator of “Toulouse-Lautrec and Montmartre,” which will open at the Art Institute on July 16.
