Three local governments received a $125,000 Illinois Tomorrow grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation to study the traffic and environmental impact on Laraway Road from Harlem Avenue to Illinois Highway 52.

New Lenox and Frankfort, as well as Will County, applied for the grant several months ago.

The grants were awarded this week.

Together they will hire a consultant to determine what infrastructure will be needed as more development moves toward the area.

The three together will match 10 percent of the grant, said New Lenox Mayor Mike Smith.
