Who’s Got Trouble?
Along with her herbilicious name, Shivaree singer Ambrosia Parsley possesses a girlish, Billie Holiday-style of phrasing, a wry sense of humor and a taste for melancholy mood music. On “Who’s Got Trouble?” those qualities are manifest on co-compositions with band mates Duke McVinnie and Danny McGough, and on covers of B.B. King’s “Someday” and Brian Eno’s “The Fat Lady of Limbourg.”
The disc is a fine example of woozy late-night/early-morning music with a satisfying bite that settles into an intoxicating noirish groove.
Best track: “I Close My Eyes,” a rev-you-up rockabilly-flavored escapade.
