ABC has given a script commitment to the pilot “Making Waves,” based on California’s surfing Paskowitz family.
For more than 30 years, the Paskowitz clan has run surf camps. The family, led by patriarch Dorian (“Doc”) Paskowitz, is based out of San Onofre, Calif. They were recently featured on HBO’s “Real Sports With Bryant Gumbel” for their camps for autistic children. “Doc” fell in love with surfing when he lived in Hawaii in the 1940s and fathered nine kids, all surfers.
“We’re trying to do an unconventional family drama about an unconventional family that runs an unconventional business,” producer Keri Selig told The Hollywood Reporter.
