Robert Weide, who went from a documentary background to HBO’s Emmy-winning “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” has signed a development deal with ABC to work on a variety of upcoming projects.
“I bet my agent that no network would make a deal with me,” Weide told The Hollywood Reporter. “Now I’m out a hundred bucks.”

Weide’s move to ABC won’t begin in earnest until mid-2005. That will allow Weide to complete his commitments as executive producer on the next season of “Curb.” He’s set to direct two ABC single-camera comedy pilots, and then he’ll move on to writing and directing his own self-generated pilot.
In addition to executive producing “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” Weide has been one of the show’s most regular directors, winning an Emmy in 2003 for helming the instant-classic “Krazee-Eyez Killa” episode.
