Get rolling

You know how it is when you pull up to a sushi counter. Everything looks so bite-sized and sounds so good you just have to sample one of everything–a little maki, a little nigiri, a little sashimi. Then the bill arrives and you’re shocked that those little nibbles added up to that great big tab. But what’s the alternative–discount sushi? Uh, no thanks. Well, why not make it yourself? You’ll save big bucks when you become the chef. Dirk Fucik, who runs Dirk’s Fish & Gourmet Shop, will be teaching a class for sushi novices, taking them through the basics of selecting and slicing fish, as well as the most important part: making rice correctly. You’ll learn how to create your own spicy tuna, California rolls and more. “And if you screw up, just eat it,” says Fucik.
