If somebody asked Western Illinois tailback Travis Glasford what he could do for an encore, Glasford might shrug and answer, “I don’t know.”
In last week’s 36-31 loss at Southwest Missouri State, the Gateway Conference offensive player of the week ran 36 times for 286 yards and two touchdowns and caught four passes for 82 yards. His 368 all-purpose yards raised his nation-leading average to 223. He also ranks No. 2 in scoring in Division I-AA with a 15.0 average and No. 5 with a rushing average of 159.5 yards per game.
Indiana State could test the Leathernecks’ pass defense with quarterback Phillip Johnson, who threw for 373 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Sycamores to a win over Illinois State.
Western’s defenders, however, lead the conference with an average yield of only 170.6 passing yards and a 47 percent completion rate by opponents.
