Fatboy Slim
Palookaville
Norman Cook (a.k.a. Fatboy Slim) has always been prone to novelty, so no one will be surprised that “Palookaville”–a summer album delivered just in time for winter–adds very little to his repertoire of big drum beats and recognizable samples. “Don’t Let The Man Get You Down” starts the album by hinging on the 5 Man Electric Band’s “Signs,” and the disc winds down with a cover of Steve Miller’s “The Joker” (with vocals by fellow cartoon Bootsy Collins, no less). Sandwiched in between are 10 more tracks of joyously forgettable fluff to varying degrees of in-your-face annoyance, each waiting for a clever Spike Jonze video to make it an inescapable hit.
