With a growing population increasing the demand for services, village officials will invest about a half million dollars to renovate Village Hall and the police station.
Assistant Village Administrator Kirk Zoellner said new offices and a customer service area for the Community Development Department would be added to Village Hall, a former school building at 11004 Carpenter St., and the police station, a converted fire station at 10907 Front St., would get an additional 15,000 square feet of work space.
Zoellner cautioned that the project isn’t a permanent fix, but should serve the village’s needs for about five to seven years. The village’s long-term strategic plan calls for hiring an architect to plan for a permanent solution, he said.
The contracts awarded to various tradesmen and contractors came in at $553,771, slightly below the $554,823 set aside in the budget.
Orland Park-based WCT Architects will act as construction manager and oversee the work, a move that will save the village money, Zoellner said.
Construction will begin as soon as possible, he said.
