A new Illinois Prairie Path bridge over Ferry Road where Naperville, Aurora and Warrenville intersect is now open to pedestrians, DuPage County officials announced Tuesday.
The $1 million bridge, just west of Illinois Highway 59, is part of a $12 million, 2-mile long Ferry Road reconstruction project begun last April.
The project converted Ferry Road from a two-lane rural road to a four-lane roadway with a center median and left turn lanes, which county officials say were needed to accommodate increasing traffic.
A a 10-foot-wide bicycle path on the north side of Ferry Road was built along with a 5-foot concrete sidewalk on the south side, each stretching the entire two miles of the project.
