Cornerback Kelvin Hayden, who has become one of Illinois’ top defensive players this season after moving from wide receiver, said Monday he will stay out of contact all week at practice after injuring his left shoulder in the second quarter of the loss to Purdue.
But he plans to play Saturday at Wisconsin.
“It popped out of place and I was frightened when it happened,” Hayden said. “I never had that happen before. I went to the sidelines, and when I stood up it went back in place.”
Hayden returned to the game and finished with a game-high 15 tackles. He also was credited with breaking up a pass and blocking a punt.
“I was tired [Saturday night] and was able to go to sleep right away,” Hayden said. “At 12 or 1 in the morning I woke up in a lot of pain and stayed up till 4 or 5. When I woke up again I was feeling kind of rough, but now I feel good.”
