Beautifully Human: Words and Sounds Vol. 2
In the world of R&B, a four-year gap between albums is akin to announcing your retirement: Expectations fade almost as fast as an artist’s ascent to popularity. But Jill Scott’s “Beautifully Human: Words and Sounds Vol. 2” is more than a comeback. The disc actually sounds like the Philly soul singer waited until she had something important to say before heading back to the studio. “Beautifully Human” recalls the thoughtful and sensitive soul albums that regularly cropped up in the ’70s. Yet with “Golden” and “Bedda at Home,” Scott effortlessly brings those classic vibes into the modern age.
