Why it clicks: Bad experiences with moving companies are on the rise as dishonest firms get more brazen and time-pressed individuals rush to find a mover at the lowest price. In 1999, the Better Business Bureau logged 5,097 complaints about moving companies. That number jumped to 9,405 last year.

The list is not comprehensive since the information comes voluntarily from other consumers. However, the site does provide tips on hiring a mover, how to ensure the company is properly licensed and how to complain if you’ve been ripped off.
