“Friends” star Lisa Kudrow hasn’t been away for so long, but she’s ready for “The Comeback.” Kudrow is looking to star in an HBO comedy that she’ll co-write and executive produce with Michael Patrick King of “Sex and the City.”

Meanwhile, Kudrow’s “Friends” co-star Courteney Cox is looking at a possible drama series at the premium cable network, this one from Nick Cassavetes (“The Notebook”).

According to The Hollywood Reporter, “The Comeback” will feature Kudrow as a former sitcom star looking to kick-start her career. HBO has given the new pilot a green light and can now move forward with casting.

The Cox project sounds strangely like a darker variation on “The Comeback.” Cox would also play an actress trying to make a comeback, though her character would be a recovering alcoholic.

Cassavetes is expected to write and direct if a deal can be reached, and Cox, Cassavetes and Cox’s husband David Arquette would executive produce.
